Adaptive Markets and Perspectives on Trend Following
According to Andrew Lo’s Adaptive Markets Hypothesis, markets adapt and evolve creating both challenges and opportunities for investment strategies. From this perspective, any investment approach is simply a heuristic that must be adapted to the changing market environment. Dr. Kaminski’s presentation will review adaptive markets and use this framework to discuss the merging and converging of different investment approaches: technical, quantitative, and fundamental. In addition, since trend following is one of the most classic investment heuristics, the talk will focus closer in on trend following and why this strategy might work in certain market environments.
