Akira Homma, CFA, CMT, CFTe, MSTA, FRM, CIIA, CMA is Chief General Manager at Capital Partners Securities, a Tokyo-based investment house.

Akira has over 30 years’ experience in investment management, having worked on both the buy and sell sides in Japan and Europe, as well at a U.S. global financial media company.

He started his career as an equity analyst and subsequently served as a quantitative analyst at Kokusai Securities (present Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities). On the buy side, he managed Asian equity portfolios at Lombard Odier International Portfolio Management (UK) and global multi-strategy funds at Gesindex. As Senior Quantitative Analyst at Dow Jones Japan, he delivered quantitative and technical analysis for institutional investors.

Before joining Capital Partners Securities, Akira held leadership roles at Sieg Securities, Aizawa Securities, Tokai Tokyo Securities/Financial Holdings, and Tachibana Securities, primarily in research production and global business development. His diverse responsibilities included: producing research reports based on fundamental, technical, and quantitative analyses; leading a team of researchers as Head of Research; quantitative modeling; global alliance building; fund and manager sourcing; product structuring; and marketing Japanese equity research and hedge fund strategies on a global scale.

Since 2020, Akira has been a board member of the CMT Association. He previously served over 17 years in leadership positions within major organizations for investment professionals, including: (i) five years on the board of CFA Society Japan; (ii) six years on the board of the International Federation of Technical Analysts (IFTA), where he acted as Vice President (Asia Pacific) for four years; and (iii) six years leading the Nippon Technical Analysts Association (NTAA), the largest market analysts’ association in Japan, with approximately 3,000 members. At the IFTA, he served as Conference Director for IFTA 2015 Tokyo, a legendary event that is among the highest-rated in the organization’s history. The conference featured 58 selected speakers, including 10 CFAs, 12 CMTs, and eight Ph.D. holders, and was the first IFTA conference officially supported by the CFA Institute’s local society.

Akira holds multiple investment designations, including Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Market Technician (CMT), Certified Financial Technician (CFTe), Member of the Society of Technical Analysts (MSTA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA), and Chartered Member of the Securities Analysts Association of Japan (CMA).

As the first CFA/ CMT dual charterholder in Japan, he employs a multi-disciplinary approach to investment management, incorporating fundamental analysis, technical analysis, quantitative analysis and the behavioral approach, and has been championing this approach for many years.

He earned his MBA from IESE Business School (Barcelona, Spain) after completing his undergraduate studies at Kyoto University (Kyoto, Japan).

In addition to his role with the CMT Association, Akira is a member of several professional organizations, including the CFA Institute, CFA Society Japan, the UK Society of Technical Analysts (STA), the Nippon Technical Analysts Association (NTAA), the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), the Securities Analysts Association of Japan (SAAJ), the Japan Association for Financial Planners (JAFP), and the Nippon Finance Association (NFA).
