Thijs Aaten CMT is the CEO of APG Asset Management’s Asia operations. He is an experienced all-round executive demonstrated by his more than 25 years’ experience in Asset Management, predominantly in the Netherlands and Asia. Based in Hong Kong, APG’s regional headquarters, Thijs oversees strategy and operations across for one of the world’s largest pension investors.
Previously, Thijs held the role of CFRO and was responsible for the full remit of risk management, compliance and finance. Prior to this, he established the APG Treasury Center, a licensed investment firm which acted as the central dealing desk and counter party for APG’s clients and funds. During and in the years after the credit crisis of 2008 he managed a €200 billion pension fund portfolio as Managing Director Allocation & Overlay Management and positioned it successfully for recovery in 2009.
Thijs’s external board and industry engagements include ASIFMA (Asia Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association) where he is an exco member of the Asset Management group. He is also a member of the Investment Committee of Bpf Schilders.
Aaten holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Nijenrode, a master’s degree in Economics from Vrije Universiteit and is also a CFA and CMT charter holder.
