As a CMT Charterholder, you are eligible to claim your free digital badge, administered by the CMT Association and hosted on the Credly platform. Earning the badge upon completion of the CMT Program demonstrates your mastery of a core body of technical analysis knowledge used in trading and investing, as well as your commitment to a strict code of ethics.

The badge functions as a digital & visual online validation of your CMT designation that can be shared within your professional network either through social media platforms, website and/or email signatures.

How to earn your CMT Charterholder badge?

Earn your CMT Charter

Pass the CMT Level III exam and submit your completed application for professional membership to the Admissions Committee. The Board will notify you when your designation has been granted.

Receive Digital Badge Email

Once the Board has granted your CMT designation, you will receive an email instructing you to claim your digital CMT Charterholder badge.

Create your Credly Account

Follow the link in the digital badge email to set up your account on the Credly platform, which will give you a centralized dashboard from which to view and accept badges.

Claim Your Badge

Once you have created your Credly account through the link in your email, you will be able to accept your CMT Charterholder badge and share it across LinkedIn, Facebook, and other online platforms.

Our digital badging platform supports a member-focused job board, which can be accessed through the CMT Charter page on Credly. You can access job listings sorted by position title when you click on the “Demonstrated Skills” tags on the CMT Charter page; each skill will take you to a page of job listings associated with that skill.

The CMT Association provides access to the Credly Insights board as a service to our members. However, we are unable to post job opportunities directly to this board. How will I know if I’ve earned a badge?
You will receive an email notification from Credly with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account.
Why claim my digital badge?
Digital badges are online representations of your achievements. Digital badges provide CMT Charterholders increased value by enabling employers and colleagues to view and learn more about the credentials you hold. When someone clicks on your badge, they will be directed to an overview page providing them metadata on your qualifications and specialized skills, as well as the process you completed to earn and maintain the credential. This additional layer of content helps you more fully explain your capabilities and high level achievements.

When a person clicks the link corresponding to your CMT Charterholder digital badge, they will be directed to an overview page hosted on the Credly site.
How do I claim my digital badge?
After you have earned your CMT Charter you will be contacted via email with instructions regarding how to claim your digital badge. In the email you will be prompted to create an account with Credly and once completed you will be able to claim your badge.

What are the benefits of a badge?
Representing your skills as a badge gives you a way to share your abilities online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time. Badges provide employers and peers concrete evidence of what you had to do to earn your credential and what you’re now capable of. Credly also offers labor market insights, based on your skills. No. This is a service we provide to you, at no cost.

What are the required readings for the CMT exams?
The Official CMT Curriculum for 2023 is available through UWorld.
Is ALL the material in the required readings covered in the exams?
No. Not ALL the material in the required readings is covered in the exams. Each level of the CMT exam is designed to test a representative sample of the Body of Knowledge, but any given section of the curriculum could be drawn from for exam questions.
Where can I find sample questions for the CMT Exams?
Information about the structure of the exams and brief samplers are available for download on each of the Level I, II and III pages. These are not meant as study guides; rather, they are offered to acquaint you with the style and format of the exams. These are similar to past CMT exams. In addition, UWorld offers a CMT Exam Review tool to help simulate exam conditions and questions.
How important are the questions on Ethics?
The CMT Association has adopted the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct (“Code and Standards”) as its ethics guide. All three levels of the CMT exams include questions pertaining to ethics. All references to “CFA Institute”, “members”, “candidates”, “CFA Program”, etc. in the Code and Standards should be read to apply to CMT Association and its members, candidates, programs, etc.

When preparing for the CMT exams, candidates are encouraged to review the Standards of Practice Handbook (“Handbook”). According to the CFA Institute “The Standards of Practice Handbook grounds the concepts covered in the Code and Standards for practical use. You can use this handbook for guidance on how to navigate ethical dilemmas you might face in your daily professional life.” Reviewing the Handbook provides a more comprehensive study process and preparation for professional practice.
Are candidates required to memorize ALL formulas contained in the required readings?
Candidates are not required to memorize the formulas for the technical analysis indicators in the reading. For these, candidates should understand the critical price and volume inputs for each formula, the core of the calculation and how similar indicators differ based on these factors. However, there may be questions that will require the candidate to have a working knowledge of other types of formulas such as those related to volatility, risk and performance metrics. Of course, the style and difficulty of any question will vary with the level of the exam.
What other sources of information should candidates reference to better understand the exam material?
Questions on the CMT exams are derived solely from the official curriculum for that calendar year. There are many sources of additional information, books, websites, videos, etc. that might help to provide a better understanding of a topic, but these are not used for the development of exam questions.
Does CMT Association offer any investment management or investment advisory services?
CMT Association is a credentialing and advocacy body. We do not offer investment management or investment advisory services of any kind.

Where and how can I share my badge through Credly?

What if I don’t want my badge to be public?

What’s to keep someone else from copying my badge and using it?
While badges are simply digital image files, they are uniquely linked to data hosted on the Credly platform. This link to verified data makes them more reliable and secure than a paper-based certificate. It also eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and your associated identity.
