Pullbacks often seem daunting when they occur, but certain pullbacks provide an opportunity to partake in the bigger uptrend. This webcast will show how to qualify pullbacks and use them in a mean-reversion system. We will compare different exit strategies and also see if stop-losses improve or hurt system performance.

Bitcoin: Predictability and Profitability via Technical Analysis
We document that Bitcoin returns, while largely unpredictable by macroeconomic variables, are predictable by 5- to 100-day moving averages (MAs) of its prices, both in-sample and out-of-sample. Trading strategies based on MAs generate substantial alpha, utility and Sharpe ratios gains, and significantly reduce the severity of drawdowns relative to a buy-and-hold position in Bitcoin, which already has a Sharpe ratio of 1.9. We explain these facts with a novel equilibrium model that demonstrates, in the absence of cash-flows, rational learning leads to joint predictability of returns by different horizon’s MAs.

Trading: It’s completely mental!
Paul will demonstrate that trading is completely mental by looking at cognitive biases in two parts:
* How we trade including mechanical versus discretionary trading, decision making and risk management.
* Why and what markets we trade, which trading platform / software we use, which instruments we trade with, which broker we use, and our approach to financial education and training.
Key to the presentation will be an attempt to model the cognitive biases together to demonstrate those we are susceptible to at each stage of the trade, rather than viewing them as distinct phenomenon as is typically the case.
