Akshay Chinchalkar is an APAC Equity Derivatives Strategist at Bloomberg, where his work centers around expanding derivatives coverage with round-the-clock support from a wonderful group of colleagues. Formerly, he was an Asia Cross Asset Editor where he covered all beats that included traditional financial markets and newer themes like cryptocurrency.
Akshay’s professional career spans over 16 years of experience in derivatives trading and technical/quantitative research, with roles spanning sell-side firms and the last 12 years at Bloomberg. He started his career in 2004 as a commodity futures trader and graduated to trading equity derivatives on a proprietary desk before heading derivatives research at one of the largest domestic sell-side firms.
Akshay’s Bloomberg career began in 2009 as a Sales Specialist where he was assigned the responsibility of managing large sell-side accounts and doubling up as a data visualization/technical research specialist. A year down, he became the Market Specialist for Technical Research, with coverage spanning the largest sell-sides, buy-side institutions and central banks spread over South Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Southeast Asia.
After spending 8 years as a Market Specialist, he joined the Workflow Specialists team where he was responsible for corporate workflows. In this role, Akshay assumed responsibility for assisting small, midsize, and large corporations in South Asia enhance their existing workflows using Bloomberg’s Core terminal and non-terminal, ancillary suite of solutions.
With FX execution becoming a core strategy for Bloomberg in 2020, Akshay moved to the Electronic Trading Specialists group, with an objective of demonstrating to both liquidity takers and makers that execution efficiencies can be achieved via Bloomberg’s suite of FX execution solutions.
Effective July 2021, as Editor, his role pivots around closely monitoring market undercurrents across the Rates, Equities, Commodities, Crypto, Credit and FX worlds to generate insights based on visualization techniques and quant powered data analysis.
Akshay holds an MSc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is a CMT Charterholder, a Co-Chair of the Mumbai CMT Chapter, and a former Global Board Member of the CMT Association. He is an EPAT alum from Quantinsti.
Akshay’s core areas of expertise include Technical and Statistical Analysis, Quantitative Research, Data Visualization and Strategy Backtesting. His newfound interests include Python and Algorithmic Trading.
