Susan Berger was a chart programmer and technical analyst for 22 years at Fidelity Investments. The effects of cancer treatment forced her to leave, so she started her own financial newsletter based on John Magee’s chart pattern analysis. She was able to work from home and email her newsletter for 7 years. Most of her clients were Fidelity portfolio managers and it was a fabulous transition into retirement. Susan was lucky that chart programs were available when she left Fidelity in 2011 and was up and running in one month. Chart patterns never change because human behavior never changes, so she had no problem just continuing like she always has. Susan retired her stock advisory service in 2018, which was exactly 50 years in technical analysis. Susan’s husband was diagnosed with cancer, so she stopped publishing. We are both survivors of aggressive cancers, which she writes very briefly about in the book.
Susan is still involved with the stock market and always own a few stocks. It is not something you can ever quit; it is a way of life. Her days are full of volunteer work, swimming across a pond in the morning and enjoying all the benefits that a career in technical analysis has given her.
